journalism and documentary projects at the 3rd portfolio review of M55 projects.

Photographers that will be selected will have the opportunity to show and discuss their work with Jean Francois Leroy, director of Visa Pour L’Image festival of photojournalism, Camille Pillas, editor of Myop agency and curator of “Petite Poule Noir” gallery, and Valentine Karamanoli photo editor of Invision Images.

Portfolio Submission Instructions:

  • Portfolios can be submitted in a CD-ROM (preferable) or printed in photo quality paper.
  • Every portfolio can contain 2 to 3 photo stories or series that each can contain 10 to 20 images.
  • A short bio of the photographer in a digital file and contact informations

(phone number, email address etc)

  • A short description of each story/project
  • 10 euros check

Οι τρεις αυτές συμμετοχές είναι αποτέλεσμα της ειδικής συνεργασίας που αναπτύσσει η Μ55 με σημαντικούς φορείς του εξωτερικού με σκοπό τόσο την ενημέρωση των Ελλήνων φωτογράφων για τα διεθνή δρώμενα, όσο και την προώθησή τους σε σημαντικές διοργανώσεις στο εξωτερικό. Η συνεργασία με το Lodz Fotofestiwal ξεκίνησε το Νοέμβριο του 2009, οπότε και η Μ55 προσκάλεσε τον Krzysztof Candrowicz να παρουσιάσει το Lodz Fotofestiwal στην Ελλάδα με αφορμή την έκθεση της Πολωνής φωτογράφου Anita Andrzjeweska “Light of Iran, Soul of Persia”, που φιλοξενήθηκε στη γκαλερί. Παράλληλα, οργανώθηκε μία σειρά portfolio reviews, κατά τη διάρκεια των οποίων ο Krzysztof Candrowicz συνάντησε 25 Έλληνες φωτογράφους και είδε τη δουλειά τους. Στη συνέχεια, επέλεξε τρεις φωτογράφους, τα έργα των οποίων θα φιλοξενήσει στο εφετινό Lodz Fotofestiwal, μία διοργάνωση που αποτελεί πόλο έλξης για πολλούς επιμελητές από όλες τις χώρες της Ευρώπης. Με αυτόν τον τρόπο, η Μ55 δημιουργεί ευκαιρίες για τους Έλληνες φωτογράφους να παρουσιάσουν τη δουλειά τους σε ένα κοινό ξένων επιμελητών και προϋποθέσεις για τη διείσδυσή τους στη διεθνή σκηνή.

Στις 18 Μαρτίου, η Καλλιτεχνική Διευθύντρια της Μ55 Νίνα Κασσιανού θα παρουσιάσει τις δουλειές των 25 φωτογράφων που έλαβαν μέρος στα portfolio reviews με τον Krzysztof Candrowicz και θα ανακοινώσει τα ονόματα των τριών φωτογράφων που θα συμμετάσχουν στο Lodz Fotofestiwal 2010. Οι φωτογράφοι που συμμετείχαν στα portfolio reviews του Νοεμβρίου είναι οι: Ένη Κούκουλα, Κώστας Ορδόλης, Νικόλας Βεντουράκης, Άννα Μαραγκουδάκη, Θεοδόσης Γιαννακίδης, Αθηνά Χρόνη, Σάκης Κασάπης, Τίνα Καραγεωργίου, Jeff Vanderpool, Δημήτρης Ρίζος, Τάκης Ζερδεβάς, Μαρίλη Κωνσταντινοπούλου, Ελένη Μουζακίτη, Ελένη Παγώνη, Μαρίλη Παπαδοπούλου, Στεφανία Μιζάρα, Ελίνα Γιονανλή, Χάρης Κακαρούχας, Γιάννης Τζώρτζης, Αθηνά Καζολέα, Χρύσα Τσοβίλη, Σύλβια Διαμαντοπούλου, Γιώργος Μουτάφης, Ανδρέας Πλιάτσικας και Ντένη Θεοχαράκη.

Στο επόμενο διάστημα, η Μ55 θα αναπτύξει περαιτέρω τη συνεργασία της με το Lodz Fotofestiwal μέσα από δομημένες δράσεις συνεργασίας. Η πρώτη δράση αφορά σε επίσκεψη ενημέρωσης και δικτύωσης στο Lodz Fotofestiwal 2010, η οποία θα πραγματοποιηθεί από τις 6 έως τις 11 Μαϊου 2010 και είναι ανοιχτή στη συμμετοχή τόσο για επαγγελματίες φωτογράφους, όσο και για φοιτητές και σπουδαστές. Κατά τη διάρκεια της επίσκεψης, η επιμελήτρια της Μ55 Νίνα Κασσιανού θα ξεναγήσει τους συμμετέχοντες στο φεστιβάλ, αλλά και σε σημαντικές γκαλερί της Βαρσοβίας και θα τους συνοδεύσει σε συναντήσεις γνωριμίας με τον Krzysztof Candrowicz και με άλλους σημαντικούς Πολωνούς επιμελητές.

Η δεύτερη δράση αφορά σε συμπαραγωγή εκτενούς αφιερώματος στη σύγχρονη ελληνική φωτογραφία για το Lodz Fotofestiwal 2011, οπότε και το φεστιβάλ θα φιλοξενήσει περίπου 10 σύγχρονους Έλληνες φωτογράφους. Η προεπιλογή των έργων θα γίνει από την επιμελήτρια της Μ55 Νίνα Κασσιανού έως το Σεπτέμβριο του 2010. Κάθε Ιούλιο, το Βραβείο Voies Off απονέμεται από μία διεθνή επιτροπή καταξιωμένων επιμελητών σε ένα καλλιτέχνη για την ποιότητα του έργου του. Το εφετινό βραβείο είναι ύψους 2.000€.

Συνεπής στο στόχο της προώθησης σύγχρονων Ελλήνων φωτογράφων σε διεθνείς διοργανώσεις, η Μ55 προσφέρει σε όσους ενδιαφέρονται να διεκδικήσουν το βραβείο επιστημονική καθοδήγηση μέσω του «Προγράμματος κατάθεσης φακέλλου για το Voies Off Prize», το οποίο περιλαμβάνει τα ακόλουθα στάδια:

  1. Portfolio reviews με την Καλλιτεχνική Διευθύντρια της Μ55 Δρ Νίνα Κασσιανού με σκοπό την επιλογή, editing και παρουσίαση της φωτογραφικής ενότητας κάθε υποψηφίου. Ανάλογα με τις ανάγκες του έργου του, κάθε υποψήφιος μπορεί να πραγματοποιήσει από 1 έως 3 ημίωρες συναντήσεις με τη Δρ Νίνα Κασσιανού.
  2. Καθοδήγηση για τη συλλογή του συνοδευτικού υλικού της πρότασης, οργάνωση του συνοδευτικού υλικού, σύνταξη και κατάθεση της πρότασης από τους συνεργάτες της Μ55.

Ημέρες και Ώρες Προγράμματος

Από τις 19 Ιανουαρίου έως τις 11 Φεβρουαρίου, κάθε Τρίτη και Πέμπτη, από τις 16:00 έως τις 18:30, κατόπιν προκαθορισμένου ραντεβού

Κόστος Προγράμματος

Το κόστος του προγράμματος διαμορφώνεται ανάλογα με το πλήθος και το είδος των υπηρεσιών που κάθε υποψήφιος επιλέγει ως εξής:

-        25€ για κάθε ημίωρο portfolio review με τη Δρ Νίνα Κασσιανού

-        20€ για καθοδήγηση στη συλλογή και οργάνωση του συνοδευτικού υλικού και τη σύνταξη του φακέλλου.

-        25€ για την κατάθεση του φακέλλου, ποσό που καταβάλλεται στο φεστιβάλ Les Rencontres d’ Arles για την αξιολόγηση του φακέλλου.

Krzysztof Candrowicz is a founder and director of Lodz Art Center and Foundation of Visual Education in the city of Lodz in Poland. The foundation has started organization of the International Festival of Photography in 2001 and now is preparing the ninth edition in 2010. Every year during the festival he coordinate 50 exhibitions and a numerous workshops, lectures, slide-shows and movie presentation.

This attempt is situated close to the Central European tradition of the decade of the 20s and the 30s ‘New Objectivity’. Specifically, in an encyclopedic approach to photography that was expressed through the systematic photographing-typology- of single individuals of various age, profession and social groups. Additionally, the white environment where the photographed subjects are placed as well as the direct approach of the photographers connote the iconographic codes of the postwar photographic production in the genre of portrait. Accordingly, the viewer is trapped from the models body geography, the details revealed of the freedom they have to select their clothes to pose by placing their hands on their face, their waste or behind their backs and finally to expose or cover their scars or their tattoos. Yet, we must not forget that this conscious choice of pose communicates their cultural identity. This is exactly the area where the typological aspect of this photographic series is situated.

This feeling is especially intensified by purposefully repeated limitation of view in frame to a single object: fragment of fabric, details of face and body, outline of human silhouette. Fragmentariness, and darkness embodied in these pictures as well as their poetic and fairy-tale mood they create, are the clear and particular elements which offer to the whole Iran work an aura made of exotic, ambiguities and secrets.
